Official: Algerian FAF crash Jose Peseiro links, appoints Vladimir Petkovic

Jose Peseiro was heavily linked to the Algerian job, but those talks have now been put to bed

The Algerian Football Federation have confirmed the appointment of Vladimir Petkovic, ending speculations linking Super Eagles boss Jose Peseiro, Soccernet.ng reports.

Following Algeria’s poor outing at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations that saw them exit the competition in the group stage after picking just two points from their three games, Djamel Belmadi parted ways with the team.

After his sack, there were talks linking former Super Eagles boss Peseiro to the Algerian job, as the Portuguese tactician led Nigeria to a second-place finish. Peseiro’s contract is set to expire at the end of February but he has not penned a new deal with the NFF.

However, all of those talks have now been put to bed, as the Algerian FA have announced the appointment of Petkovic as the new national team coach.

He will take charge of the team over the next few months and try to stabilize the situation after their abysmal performances at the last two AFCONs.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Football Federation have not confirmed a new coach for the Super Eagles yet. But Petkovic’s appointment means that Peseiro has one less suitor.

Still, the NFF have to move fast if they want to retain Peseiro as coach. The former Venezuela manager has gained the trust of Nigerian fans after a strong performance at the AFCON. The NFF may have to increase Peseiro’s wages before he agrees to a new deal.

Do you think Peseiro is the right man for the Super Eagles job?

  • José Peseiro deserves to continue as Super Eagles Head Coach. He was given the task of reaching the AFCON Semi Final for his contract to be renewed, he surpassed the target, reached the finals and almost won the AFCON at first attempt when nobody gave him a chance. He deserves improved wages and he should be allowed to shop for.good midfielders, consolidate on his achievements so far. Continuity is a key to doing well at AFCON 2025 in Morocco and qualifying for the World Cup. NFF cannot renege on an agreement they entered with Peseiro. His wages was cut from $70,000 to $50,000 he still stayed with us. So now he is asking for $70,000 after his stunning performance at the last AFCON ... HE DESERVES TH INCREASE BY ALL INTENTS AND PURPOSES ... WE WANT CONTINUITY IN OUR SOCCER GOING FORWARD ... NFF SHOULD DO THE NEEDFUL NOW‼️‼️‼️

  • I personally think Jose should be retained as super eagles coach. apart from Jose being a very good and experienced coach, the te
am needs stability, continuity, balance , understanding and durable tactics and philosophy of football. And we can't achieve these aims and success with the NFF having a revolving door for managers .

  • I don't support the renewal of his contract he is not technically fit no mid field dominant play known for super eagles . All their game plan is from defender to attackers. Which weighly affected and mounted pressure on the defender
