Nigeria’s Iheanacho, Ghana’s Fatawu wrought FA Cup magic for Leicester City; Orban’s Lyon edge past Strasbourg

Kelechi Iheanacho and Issahaku Abdul Fatawu combined to hand Leicester City a 1-0 extra-time win over AFC Bournemouth in the 5th round of the fA Cup on Tuesday night, Soccernet.ng reports.

Iheanacho and Fatawu started the game on the bench before they were both introduced in the 64th minute.

Still, the match ended goalless and proceeded into extra time.

But with penalties fast approaching, Iheanacho teed up Fatawu on the edge of the box, and the Ghana youngster unleashed an unstoppable strike into the far corner to send the Foxes to the quarterfinals.

 

In France, Olympique Lyonnais are through to the semifinals of the Coupe de France after beating Strasbourg on penalties.

Gift Orban did his bit after replacing Alexandre Lacazette in the 66th minute, but there was no goal to separate the two teams in regulation time.

Orban took and converted Lyon’s second penalty during the shootout as the Pierre Sage-tutored side claimed a 4-3 victory.

The night, however, ended on a sour note for Umar Sadiq and Real Sociedad after they crashed out of the Copa del Rey in the semifinals at the hands of Mallorca.

The two teams played out a goalless draw on Tuesday, and having already tied 1-1 in the first leg at Real Sociedad, Mallorca advanced to the final on the away goal rule.

In Turkey, Bright Osayi Samuel was also in action for Fenerbahce as the Super Lig giants were sent packing out of the Turkish Cup following a surprise 3-0 loss at Ankaragücü.

In Bulgaria, Botev Plovdiv progressed to the semifinals of the FA Cup after defeating Spartak Varna 2-1 inside the Stadion Hristo Botev in Plovdiv.

Nigerian youngster Samuel Akere got the crucial opening goal for the winners as the 20-year-old edges closer to the first trophy of his career.

In India’s I-League, Ogana Louis grabbed both goals for Churchill Brothers to propel them to a fine 2 – 0 win over Delhi FC.

In the Hungarian Magyar Kupa, Bright Edomwonyi was among the goals for Diósgyőr as the club soared to a thrilling 4 – 2 triumph over Zalaegerszeg.

In Romania’s Liga 1, Philip Otele continued his decent scoring form as he found the net to help CFR Cluj earn a 2-2 draw at Oţelul.

Otele, 24, now has 12 league goals in 28 games.

Elsewhere at the Complex Sportiv Craiova, Jibril Ibrahim netted the opener for U Craiova 1948, but Politehnica Iași fought back to secure a 1-1 draw.

In Vietnam’s V.League 1, Michael Olaha scored a last-minute penalty to help Song Lam Nghe An avoid defeat at Hai Phong as both teams settled for a 2-2 draw.
