Nigerians abroad: Babajide, Khadiri, Olatunji, John in rain of goals in Spain, Belgium, Czech Republic, Portugal

Soccernet.ng highlights the best of Nigerian footballers in some of the European leagues over the weekend.

Spain

In La Liga, Super Eagles striker Umar Sadiq was in the starting lineup for Real Sociedad as the club came from a goal deficit to secure a 2-1 win over Real Mallorca.

In the women’s elite league, despite the departure of Asisat Oshoala, Barcelona remained too good for Rasheedat Ajibade as the champions strolled to a 2-0 win.

It did not get any better for Super Falcons star Gift Monday and UD Tenerife as they lost 2-1 to Real Madrid.

Nigeria international Rinsola Babjide scored Tenerife’s only goal in the second half, her second league goal in the club’s colours and her 11th in Spanish football.

Italy

Fresh from his exertions at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire, Samuel Chukwueze started for AC Milan in their humbling 4-2 Serie A loss at Monza.

Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye kept up his fine form to help Udinese earn a thrilling 1-1 draw at home to Cagliari.

Isaac Success was a second-half substitute for the home side, but they failed to find the winning goal they probably deserved.

Earlier on Saturday, Michael Folorunsho netted a stunning first goal and assisted the second to lift Hellas Verona to a 2-2 draw with Italian giants Juventus.

Belgium

AFCON silver-medalist Raphael Onyedika featured for Club Brugge as they battled a 1-1 draw with city rivals Cercle Brugge in the First Division A.

In the Challenger Pro League, Attah Kadiri opened the scoring for Francs Borains to help the club secure a hard-fought 2-1 away win at Standard Liège II.

Czech Republic

Mohamed Tijani assisted one of the goals that powered Slavia Prague to a convincing 3-0 victory over Karviná.

Defensive kingpin Igoh Ogbu was a rock in defence for the Slavians as they carved out another clean-sheet performance.

At the epet ARENA in Praha, Victor Olatunji was the hero for Sparta Prague as he scored one and assisted the other to lift the champions to a narrow 2-1 win against Slovan Liberec.

Portugal

In the Segunda Liga, Kaduna-born Kelechi John broke the deadlock for Oliveirense, but they could not hold on to the advantage, eventually drawing 2-2 with their hosts, Academico Viseu.

Serbia

Patrick Eze’s 67th-minute strike was all Mladost Lučani needed to claim a tough 1-0 win at Spartak Subotica and record their eighth Super Liga win of the season.

Elsewhere at the Gradski Stadion Čair in Niš, Bamidele Yusuf proved to be the difference-maker as his second goal in as many games for his new club, Radnički Niš, handed them a slim 1-0 win over visiting Javor.
