Nigeria will meet the winner of the last quarterfinal clash between the Bafana Bafana and the Islanders
Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has confessed that he would love Nigeria to meet South Africa in the semifinal of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, Soccernet.ng reports.
Nigeria have booked their spot in the last four of the 34th edition of the AFCOn after defeating Angola in their quarterfinal clash on Friday.
Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman netted the only goal of the encounter as the Super Eagles got the better of the Palancas Negras.
Nigeria are preparing to leave Abidjan and make the trip to Bouake, where they will await the winner of the last quarterfinal fixture between South Africa and Cape Verde.
Nwabali plays his club football in South Africa for Chippa United and is familiar with a large contingent of the Bafana Bafana squad to the AFCON.
And Nigeria’s number-one shot-stopper has expressed his desire to match wits with South Africa in the last-four stage of the continental championship.
“Both Cape Verde and South Africa are good teams, but I want to play against South Africa,” Nwabali told the media.
“I really wish to see how my defence will fare against them. Yes, most of their players know me and I also know them.”
Nigeria have won the AFCON trophy three times, first in 1980 and subsequently in 1994 and 2013.
