Transfer: 15-time South African champions target Nigeria goalkeeper Nwabali after impressive Afcon performances

Jose Peseiro travelled to South Africa to watch Stanley Nwabali in training and in action for Chippa United before drafting him into his final twenty-five-man squad for the AFCON tournament.

Super Eagles and Chippa United goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali, has been linked with a move to 15-time South African champions, Kaizer Chiefs, after his impressive displays at the AFCON tournament, Soccernet.ng reports.

Nwabali, 27, was a shock inclusion in Jose Peseiro’s final 25-man AFCON 2023 squad list as the Super Eagles looked to solve their goalkeeping problems after consistent errors by Francis Uzoho.

Since the start of the AFCON tournament in Ivory Coast, the former Lobi Stars goalkeeper has started every game in goal for Nigeria, keeping two clean sheets alongside making stellar saves.

For the majority of the Nigerian fans, they’ve been pleased with the impressive performances of Nwabali and feel much more confident when he’s in goal.

Soccernet.ng reported earlier that Belgian side, Union Saint-Gilloise are monitoring the the 1.97m tall goalkeeper, and according to The South African, Kaizer Chiefs are looking to sign him as well.

In the DsTV Premiership this season, Nwabali has kept seven clean sheets in fifteen games for Chippa United, and with the club’s transfer ban lifted by FIFA, a replacement can be signed, should the Nigerian move to Europe or remain in South Africa.

Nigeria will face Cameroon with Nwabali in goal at the Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny in Ivory Coast as the Super Eagles look to reach the quarter-finals of the AFCON 2023 tournament.
