Nigerians abroad: Dessers, Dele-Bashiru, Tella, Payne in goal rush; Okoye, Demehin impress in Italy, France

Soccernet.ng presents the most eye-catching performances of some of Nigeria’s best exports to Europe and other continents on Saturday, January 20, 2024.

England

In the English Championship, Tom Dele-Bashiru opened the scoring with a 13th-minute penalty for Watford as they were eventually held to a 1-1 draw by Bristol City at the Ashton Gate Stadium.

Super Eagles defender Jamilu Collins was in the losing team as Plymouth Argyle made light work of Cardiff City following a 3-1 triumph.

Spain

Asisat Oshoala claimed her first trophy of the year as Barcelona defeated Levante 7-0 in the final of the Supercopa Femenina played at the Estadio Municipal de Butarque in Leganés.

In the Primera Division Femenina, Nigerian midfielder Toni Payne scored for Sevilla in their thrilling 3 – 1 victory over Villarreal.

It is Payne’s fourth goal in 14 league appearances this season and her first in 2024.

In the Spanish La Liga, Umar Sadiq played every single minute as Real Sociedad fought out a slim 1-0 win away to Celta Vigo.

Italy

In the Italian Serie A, Maduka Okoye made several excellent saves, but it was not enough to help Udinese avoid a 2-3 home defeat to AC Milan.

Isaac Success was a second-half substitute for Udinese in the encounter.

Germany

In the absence of Victor Boniface, Bayer Leverkusen kept up their stunning unbeaten run as they secured a stoppage-time 3-2 win at RB Leipzig.

Nigeria international Nathan Tella scored Leverkusen’s first goal early in the second half to bring the scores to 1-1 after Xavier Simmons had given the home side a halftime lead.

France

In the Femenine Division 1, Oluwatosin Demehin and Rofiat Imuran were solid at the back for Stade de Reims as they powered to a 1 – 0 win at home to Guingamp.

At the Campus PSG in Poissy, Nicole Oyeyemisi Payne made her full debut for PSG as they delivered a masterclass on the road to an 8-1 triumph over Bordeaux.

Belgium

In the First Division A, Tolu Arokodare and Yira Sor could not conjure the magic for KRC Genk as they settled for a disappointing 1-1 draw with Cercle Brugge.

Scotland

Cyriel Desssers was among the goals, while Leon Balogun was an unused sub as Rangers advanced to the next round of the FA Cup following an emphatic 4-1 win at Dumbarton.
