Isah Ali: Portugal’s Feirense and Remo Stars agree on move for NPFL defender

The Portuguese and Nigerian clubs share the same ownership, and they have come together to make the move possible midway through the winter transfer window

Nigerian Professional Football League campaigners Remo Stars have officially announced the transfer of their centre-back, Isah Ali, to Portugal’s CD Feirense, Soccernet.ng reports

In a concise club statement released on official channels, Remo Stars confirmed the agreement in principle with CD Feirense for Isah Ali’s move, expressing gratitude for his contributions and extending best wishes for his upcoming football endeavors.

The specifics of the transfer, including the fee and the duration of Ali’s contract with Feirense, remain undisclosed as Remo Stars opted not to reveal further details.

Swiftly after the agreement, the 22-year-old centre-back embarked on a journey to Portugal, potentially making him available for Feirense’s Liga Portugal 2 clash against Oliveirense this weekend.

Ali’s know-how as a defender has been instrumental in Remo Stars’ defensive solidity, contributing significantly to the team’s impressive standing as the second-placed side in the NPFL with 32 points from 18 games.

Notably, the connection between Remo Stars and CD Feirense runs deeper, as both clubs share ownership under the Nigerian businessman Kunle Soname.

Previously known as FC DENDER and founded by Soname in 2004, Remo Stars align with CD Feirense, which Soname acquired in 2015, marking a historic milestone as the first Nigerian to own a European club.

Isah Ali’s arrival at CD Feirense adds to the Nigerian contingent at the struggling Liga 2 side, joining Oche Ochowechi, Tony Shimaga, and Lekan Oyedele.

Ahead of Ali’s addition, CD Feirense currently face challenges in Portugal’s Liga 2, occupying the 13th position in the 18-team table.
