The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has appointed Nigerian football legend Augustine ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha as part of its newly launched CAF Ambassadors Programme, Soccernet.ng reports.

CAF officially made the announcement on Monday via its official website.

Joining Okocha in this prestigious program are renowned football figures such as El Hadji Diouf from Senegal, Ghana’s Asamoah Gyan, and former Egypt midfielder Ahmed Hassan.

The selection criteria for these four legends encompass various aspects, including sporting and career achievements, social impact, and commercial value.

The CAF Ambassadors, identified as well-known public figures, will play a pivotal role in promoting both CAF and African football.

Their responsibilities extend beyond the pitch, encompassing involvement in tournaments, charity initiatives, commercial events, and other social activities.

This initiative is expected to usher CAF and its endeavors into new territories, with the inclusion of personalities from diverse fields, bringing about not only commercial benefits but also significant social impact across the continent.

His achievements include clinching the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations title with Nigeria and securing Olympic gold in Atlanta, USA, two years later.

Okocha’s stellar performances have etched his name among the best players in the history of clubs such as Frankfurt, Fenerbahce, PSG, and Bolton Wanderers.
