AFCON 2023: “We are confident that we will go far”- Ex-Arsenal star Iwobi tells Super Eagles fans

The Super Eagles will be making their charge for a fourth crown, and Iwobi has a lot of confidence in his and his teammates’ abilities

Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi has expressed confidence over Nigeria’s chances of doing well at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, Soccernet.ng reports.

Iwobi is one of the stars in coach Jose Peseiro’s 25-man squad for the AFCON later this month. The former Arsenal man will be looking to play an important role for the team as they charge for a fourth African title later this month.

However, it will not be an easy ride, as other countries have solid teams and would be looking to claim the AFCON trophy. Nonetheless, Iwobi is confident that the three-time African champions can take their tally to four.

“We’ve seen the ability and quality from those who made the squad and those who didn’t make the squad- because there is a lot of talent in Nigeria,” Iwobi said.

“So, we have confidence that we can go far in this competition. But we have to prove it to ourselves, and the first thing I can assure Nigerians is that we are going to give a hundred percent to make the nation proud.”

The team is currently camped in Abu Dhabi ahead of the competition, and they will play a preparatory game against Guinea on Monday. Then, they will move to Ivory Coast next Wednesday.
