AFCON 2023: Sunday Oliseh names three players who impressed in Nigeria vs Cote d’Ivoire clash

The Super Eagles of Nigeria recently secured a victory against 2023 Africa Cup of Nations host, Côte d’Ivoire, to stay on course in the tournament

Former Super Eagles star, Sunday Oliseh, commended three standout players in Nigeria’s recent clash against Cote d’Ivoire, as reported by Soccernet.ng.

In the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations match, Nigeria secured a 1-0 victory against the Ivory Coast, courtesy of a goal from the spot by William Troost-Ekong.

Victor Osimhen, recognised as the Man of the Match for his stellar performance, garnered praise, along with Nottingham forward Ola Aina and Fulham star Calvin Bassey, who received acclaim from Nigerian football fans.

The former Borussia Dortmund midfielder, expressed his admiration for the trio in a tweet after the 1-0 win. He specifically lauded Ola Aina for his “vintage, Naija-like, exceptional performance,” and acknowledged the herculean efforts of Frank Onyeka and Calvin Bassey.

“Ola Aina! Ola Aina !! Ola Aina!!! What a vintage, Naija like, exceptional performance he put up, as Super Eagles got their groove on to down Cote D’ivoire 1-0. Frank Onyeka & Calvin Bassey worked herculean too! Bravo boys,” he said.

Under Jose Peseiro’s management, the Super Eagles currently hold the second position in Group A with four points, trailing Equatorial Guinea, who lead the group based on goal difference.

Looking ahead, Nigeria aims to secure a victory against Guinea-Bissau to advance to the next round of the tournament. The Super Eagles are poised for a crucial encounter as they strive for progression in the 2023 AFCON.
