AFCON 2023: ‘I can’t play more than 11’ – Jose Peseiro addresses rotating squad

The Super Eagles of Nigeria are seeking to secure all three points in their meeting against Guinea-Bissau at the current 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournament

Head coach of the Super Eagles, Jose Peseiro, has revealed he will feature his best 11 as always in Nigeria’s 2023 Africa Cup of Nations matchday three clash against Guinea-Bissau, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Portuguese coach has not featured some key players like Kelechi Iheanacho, Ahmed Musa, and Terem Moffi since Nigeria kicked off their AFCON 2023 campaign against Equatorial Guinea.

Despite the Leicester City man declaring himself fully fit to feature in the tournament, and Ahmed Musa not showing any signs of injury, along with six other unused players, Peseiro has been questioned if the players will feature in the team.

Peseiro, speaking in a Super Eagles presser ahead of the Guinea-Bissau clash, as witnessed by Soccernet.ng, revealed that he wishes to put all his players on the field to create a good atmosphere for all of them but insists he can only feature the best 11 players on the pitch.

“I would like to put all of them [together], as every player deserves to play, and we want to create a good atmosphere for all of them.
“They are important for the team, but I’m going to choose the best 11; I can’t play more than 11, but I can assure [you] that all my players are good to play,” he said.

The Super Eagles’ next clash is against Guinea-Bissau, held tomorrow, and they aim to secure all points to stay top in Group A.

  • The Coach is quite correct he can only play 11 and moreover he has to play his strongest team . It was you the press banging on about 27 players. You don’t play a player for play sake . If they are 5 up at half time then you can make changes and give another 5 a chance . But from the next round it will always be your best available legs
