Why English Premier League will suit Osimhen – Fulham’s Calvin Bassey

Calvin Bassey joined Marco Silva’s Fulham from Ajax for a transfer fee of €21 million in July 2023 after playing just twenty-five games for the Dutch side.

Super Eagles and Fulham versatile defender, Calvin Bassey, has heaped praise on Napoli’s talisman, Victor Osimhen, even extending a Premier League invite to the striker, Soccernet.ng reports.

Bassey, 23, was born in Italy to Nigerian parents but moved with his family to England when he was a child and came through the ranks at the Leicester City academy, shuffling between left and centre-back.

The former Rangers defender had the eligibility to represent Italy, England or Nigeria at the national level, and he opted to don the colours of the Super Eagles, accepting a call-up for the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying games.

Now with 15 Nigerian caps under his belt, the 23-year-old heaped praise on Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen. Osimhen has scored twenty goals in twenty-seven appearances for the Nigerian National team, and this drew praise from his counterpart.

“He is a joke. He is the only striker I know who can run a back line by himself. He can run in behind, he can head, finish, he can do everything. The Premier League would suit him. Hopefully, he comes at some point but I’d rather have him in my team than against him,” the versatile defender told The Athletic.

Calvin Bassey and club teammate, Alex Iwobi were included in the 40-man provisional AFCON squad list released by Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro.
