Transfer: Mikel Arteta keen on £35m rated AFCON bound Nigerian striker

Arsenal have scored thirty-seven goals in twenty games, the least among the top-five clubs in the English Premier League this season.

Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, is keen on securing the services of Bayer 04 Leverkusen and Super Eagles striker, Victor Okoh Boniface as his strikers have not been reliable in scoring goals this season, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Spaniard is reportedly unhappy with the output of his two strikers, Eddie Nketiah and Gabriel Jesus. In fourteen games, Jesus has scored just three goals, and in eighteen appearances, Nketiah has scored just five.

The Gunners have also scored the least goals out of all the clubs in the English top-flight, meaning should their title charge kick off in the second half of the season, they might be knocked off-course by the number of goals they’ve scored.

According to Football Talk, the performances of Boniface have caught the attention of Arteta and the Leverkusen striker could be subject to a move to the Emirates Stadium.

The 23-year-old has scored sixteen goals in twenty-three games for Die Werkself, adding eight assists alongside, showing he’s more than just a finisher, he also possesses a creative edge.

While it is highly doubtful that Leverkusen will sell their £35m rated striker after just a season in Germany, Arsenal are also looking at Victor Osimhen and Ivan Toney.

However, both are costly options with Toney weighing in a price tag of £80m-£100m, while Victor Osimhen has a release clause of £130m included in his new contract.

Victor Boniface is primed for his first tournament with the Super Eagles after he made Jose Peseiro’s 25-man squad list that will be travelling to Ivory Coast for the AFCON tournament.
