Super Eagles stars Bruno Onyemaechi and Chidozie Awaziem caught up in salary tussle at Boavista

Boavista have paid their players for months, and two Nigerian players have been affected

Super Eagles defenders Bruno Onyemaechi and Chidozie Awaziem are involved in a tussle with Portuguese club Boavista over unpaid salaries, Soccernet reports.

Onyemaechi and Awaziem have been regulars at Boavista this season, with the former playing 12 Primera Liga games while the latter has featured in 13.

The club currently sits 11th in the Portuguese top-flight, with four wins and six losses from 14 games. However, the club has been battling with administration issues.

Former coach Petit, who was in charge since November 2021, left the club on December 12. According to Abola.pt, this happened because the club is owing salaries.

The club has been struggling financially, to the extent that they have struggled to pay for gas and water at their training ground, thereby forcing players to shower at home.

The club is currently owing players three months’ salaries, while they owe other staff at least four months.

Following this development, all Boavista players refused to train on Thursday, and there are reports that the Primera Liga board have already queried the club.

Unless Boavista find a solution to their financial problems, they may be sanctioned. This is bad news for Nigerian stars Awaziem and Onyemaechi, as they could leave soon.
