Nigerians have called upon the Super Eagles coach to find a solution to the goalkeeping problem in the team after terrible goalkeeping displays.
Sporting Lagos’ goalkeeper, Christian Nwoke had been included in Jose Peseiro’s 50-man provisional AFCON squad list, Soccernet.ng reports.
Nwoke, 23, joined Sporting Lagos in 2022 from One Hearts Football Club and was instrumental in their promotion as he saved a penalty in the dying minutes of the deciding tie. He also saved two penalties in the Naija Super 8 final to hand the club their debut silverware.
In recent times, the goalkeeping sector of the Nigerian national team has been a thing of worry after several underwhelming performances has seen the fans voice out for a change.
Jose Peseiro has always trusted Francis Uzoho as his number one in goal, but the Omonia S.C. goalkeeper has been consistent in making errors, including a vital one that kept the Super Eagles out of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
The Portuguese tactician, before Nigeria’s 1-1 draw against Lesotho mentioned that if he found a better goalkeeper than Uzoho, he’ll play him and looks to have found his choice in Nwoke.
With five clean sheets from twelve NPFL outings, Nwoke looks to be the man Peseiro has called to handle the goalkeeping responsibilities. Enyimba’s Olorunleke Ojo was also called up, while Maduka Okoye, Doma United’s Bright Osayi and Bender Insurance’s Amas Obasogie all missed out.
