Serie A: Victor Osimhen pens new deal with Napoli

Victor Osimhen defeated Liverpool’s Mohammed Salah and Paris Saint-Germain’s Achraf Hakimi to win the 2023 CAF Player of the Year award.

Super Eagles striker, Victor James Osimhen, has extended his contract with Serie A side, Napoli, Soccernet.ng reports.

Osimhen, 24, enjoyed a stellar season with Napoli, winning the Scudetto alongside multiple wall-to-wall individual awards in a terrific season for the former Lille man.

The Super Eagles striker won the Serie A golden boot, was 8th position in the Ballon d’Or rankings, won the Italian Player of the year award, before recently crowning it with the African Player of the year award.

After a season that saw Napoli win the Serie A title for the first time in over three decades, the big European clubs had the former Wolfsburg striker on their radar, with Chelsea, Manchester United, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain reportedly interested in his signature.

Osimhen also reportedly turned down several offers from a Saudi club to stay in Naples, and despite looking like he had a fall-out with the club hierarchy earlier this season, has extended his contract with the club.

Osimhen’s former deal was due to expire in the summer of 2025, meaning Napoli might have been considering selling him before his deal runs out, but the Nigerian put pen to paper to extend the contract till the summer of 2026.

The new contract has a release clause in the region of €130m, meaning the clubs interested in the services of the Nigerian will have to break the bank to get their man.

Osimhen will be looking to continue his great run of form against Jose Mourinho’s A.S. Roma this evening as he has scored in his past two games.
