Nigerians abroad: Aribo, Arokodare give Southampton, Genk perfect Boxing Day gift; Adeleye, Sor, Eduwo impress

Soccernet.ng highlights some eye-catching displays from Nigerian footballers outside the country’s shores on Tuesday, December 26, 2023.

ENGLAND

Super Eagles midfielder Joe Aribo scored his first Championship goal of the season for Southampton to break the deadlock in the Saints’ massive 5-0 win over Swansea.

Former Manchester City schoolboy Sam Edozie was also among the goals as the home team claimed their biggest victory of the campaign.

Tom Dele-Bashiru was a second-half substitute as Watford fell to a disappointing 1-4 loss at home to Bristol City.

Semi Ajayi came off the bench to help West Bromwich Albion retain their defensive solidity and clinch a narrow 1-0 victory against Norwich City.

Wilfred Ndidi featured while Kelechi Iheanacho made his first appearance in 21 days as an unfortunate own-goal denied league leaders Leicester City all three points in their 1-1 draw with second-place Ipswich Town.

In the Premier League, Ola Aina and Nottingham Forest pulled off an incredible 3-1 away victory at Newcastle United.

Calvin Bassey and Alex Iwobi were involved as Fulham were torn to bits at the Vitality Stadium, where Bournemouth cruised to a comfortable 3-0 win.

Dominic Solanke netted the second goal for the Cherries from the penalty spot just past the hour mark.

BELGIUM

In the Belgian First Division A, Tolu Arokodare scored two goals for the first time in a match for KRC Genk to lift the Limburgers to a convincing 3-0 win over champions Royal Antwerp on Boxing Day.

Compatriot Yira Sor, after a brilliant footwork, assisted Arokodare’s first goal of the evening as Chidera Ejuke and Alhassan Yusuf failed to sparkle for the Antwerp.

At the Guldensporenstadion, Jordan Torunarigha and Gift Orban impressed as KAA Gent put their hosts Kortrijk to the sword with a 2-0 triumph.

Raphael Onyedika and Club Brugge fought hard but settled for a 1-1 draw with visiting Union Saint-Gilloise.

ISRAEL

Super Eagles goalkeeper Adebayo Adeleye made several crucial saves for Hapoel Jerusalem to help them secure a thrilling 2-1 victory against Hapoel Tel Aviv in the Ligat Ha’al.

TUNISIA

After netting two of the goals that wrecked Rivers United last week, Kingsley Eduwo was back at it as he opened the scoring for Club Africain, only for his side to succumb to a tough 2-1 defeat to Stade Tunisien.
