Osimhen had a superb campaign with the Partenopeans last season, and he was recognized for his great work on Monday
Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has dedicated his GGDC Player of the Year award to his Napoli teammates, Soccernet.ng reports.
Osimhen had an outstanding campaign with Napoli last season, scoring 21 goals in the Serie A to help them to their first Scudetto in 33 years. He was also very good in the UEFA Champions League, scoring five goals in the run-up to Napoli’s quarterfinal finish in the UEFA Champions League.
Last season, the 24-year-old Nigerian striker broke Samuel Eto’o and George Weah’s longstanding goalscorer records in Italy.
Following his outstanding campaign with Napoli, Osimhen has received many award nominations, including the Balon d’Or and the FIFA Best awards.
On Monday, he was crowned the GGDC Serie A Player of the Year. After receiving his award, the former Lille man dedicated it to Napoli and the fans.
“The people that know me know that I don’t try to get all the praises to myself. For me personally, I’m a team player, and I believe if I could share this award, I will share it with Kvaratskhelia and the rest of my teammates because we deserve it,” Osimhen said.
“We were instrumental to each other towards last season’s success. This award goes to the rest of my teammates, the ones that are here and the ones that are not here.
“It also goes to Mr Spalletti, De Laurentiis, and everyone that works in Napoli. The fans deserve it, and this award represents the whole of Napoli. I’m proud to win this, and it is the most important thing for me now.”
Osimhen had a great start to the season, but he has tailed off following an injury layoff. But he has returned to action, and he will be looking to start scoring goals aplenty.
