Cyriel Dessers: Spanish La Liga club eyeing out-of-favour Super Eagles star

Spanish La Liga club Leganes have contacted Rangers over the possibility of signing Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers, Soccernet.ng reports.

There have been a lot of speculations that Nigerian striker Dessers will leave Rangers this January transfer window due to his reduced game time at the club.

The 30-year-old striker has registered 35 goals and 13 assists for the Gers since joining them from Cremonese for €5 million in July 2023. However, Rangers fans have constantly maligned him, as they believe that they could do with a more prolific striker.

Meanwhile, coach Philippe Clement, who has constantly backed Dessers seems to have lost faith in the Nigerian. Clement has preferred Morocco striker Hamza Igamane over Dessers since last November. And this has prompted talks that the Nigerian will leave Rangers to get regular playing time.

Ligue 1 club Saint Etienne and Serie A side Cagliari have been linked with the Super Eagles star this season, but nothing concrete has emerged yet.

Now, in a new development, per Matteo Moretto, Leganes could throw their hat into the ring. This is as they have contacted Rangers over the possibility of signing Dessers.

The Spanish club have struggled to score goals this season, and they are looking to get some attacking reinforcements.

Rangers could demand up to €5 million for Dessers, as they will be looking to recoup all the money they spent on him. However, they could have to settle for less eventually.

Dessers has never played in Spain, so it could be an enticing challenge for him. Nothing is confirmed yet, but Dessers could leave Ibrox before the end of the summer transfer window.
