Boniface makes history at Bayer Leverkusen again in big win over Bochum despite Xabi Alonso’s snub

Boniface has been superb for Bayer Leverkusen since he joined the club, and he just seems unstoppable at the moment

Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface got off the bench to score for Bayer Leverkusen in their 4-0 bashing of Bochum at Bay Arena, Soccernet.ng reports.

Bayer Leverkusen returned to Bundesliga action with a home fixture against Bochum. Die Werkself have been in spectacular form this season, and they were odds-on favourites to pick up three points.

Shockingly, Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso decided to bench all the Africa Cup of Nations-bound players, including Nigeria star Boniface.

However, Die Werkself still bossed the game and were clearly the better team. Czech Republic talisman Patrick Schick was in his elements on the night, as he scored a first-half hattrick to put the game to bed before halftime.

Eventually, Alonso introduced Boniface into the game in the 66th minute. The Nigerian attacker needed just 93 seconds to prove his mettle, as he linked up perfectly with Florian Wirtz for the umpteenth time this season and struck a nice shot from inside the box, which just trickled into the net to make it four for Die Werkself.

According to Opta, Boniface’s goal, was his 17th goal involvement in 16 Bundesliga games. Since detailed data collection, only Harry Kane and Diego players needed fewer games to reach that mark.

Eventually, Die Werkself saw out the lead and won the game 4-0 to maintain their place at the summit of the Bundesliga table.
