Super Falcons interim coach Madugu reveals reasons for Ashleigh Plumptre’s absence since June

Ashleigh Plumptre recently scooped the Best Player of The Month and the Best League Goal award, but has been left out of the Super Falcons squad since June

Super Falcons interim manager Justin Madugu has addressed queries regarding the continuous absence of Ashleigh Plumptre from the squad since June, Soccernet.ng reports.

Despite recent accolades for her exceptional performances in the Saudi Women’s League, where she secured both the Best Player of the Month and Best League Goal awards, Plumptre has been consistently left out of the national team during the past two FIFA windows.

Madugu shed light on the puzzling decision to omit her from the crucial Olympic qualification tie, citing ongoing concerns about the Al Ittihad player’s frequent injuries, which have raised apprehensions for the national team.

“Ashleigh has been having a lot of injuries. She has been picking some knocks, and she has not fully recovered.

“That is just the truth about it and she needed some rest, and a break from the national team engagement so that she can recover fully but she is still part of the team.” he explained.

Madugu acknowledged Plumptre’s potential contribution to the team and confirmed that she would be reinstated into the squad once she fully recuperates.

“When she fully recovers , certainly we know what Ashleigh can bring to bear, [and] she will be part of the team going forward.” he added.

The 11-time Africa Women Cup of Nations champions are scheduled to face Cape Verde soon at the MKO Abiola Stadium before heading to Cape Verde for the return leg.
