Super Eagles line up vs Zimbabwe: Uzoho, Ajayi, Bassey, Iwobi maintain spots; Tella gets debut start

Head coach of the Super Eagles, Jose Peseiro, has made some significant changes as the three-time Africa Cup of Nations champions seeks redemption against Zimbabwe, Soccernet.ng reports.

In an expected walk in the park for the Super Eagles of Nigeria, the West African side secured a shocking 1-1 draw against the Crocodiles of Lesotho.

The absence of key striker Victor Osimhen was felt as missed opportunities plagued the Nigerian attack, with Lesotho’s surprise lead by Motlomelo Mkhwanazi exposing defensive vulnerabilities.

Thanks to West Brom defender Semi Ajayi, who saved the Super Eagles from a more humiliating result as he notched a leveller against the Southern Africans.

Following the clash results, the Portuguese tactician has made some significant changes to his lineup, handing Nathan Tella his debut start in place of Kelechi Iheanacho to secure all points against the Warriors.

Peseiro has countless times shown confidence in Omonia FC goalkeeper, Francis Uzoho, who maintains his position at the back.

Portuguese gaffer opted to shuffle his defensive lineup, introducing Nottingham Forest defender Ola Aina instead of Bright Osayi-Samuel, and Bruno Onyemeachi replacing Jamilu Collins. Thus, maintaining Ajayi and Bassey Pairing.

In the midfield, Alex Iwobi and Frank Onyeka held their positions and were joined by Joe Aribo, while Moses Simon stepped in for Ademola Lookman. For the frontline, Terem Moffi stepped in for the injured Awoniyi.

Here’s the lineup:

Goalkeeper: Francis Uzoho
Defenders: Ola Aina, Semi Ajayi, Calvin Bassey, Bruno Onyemaechi
Midfielders: Nathan Tella, Alex Iwobi, Frank Onyeka, Joe Aribo, Moses Simon
Forwards: Terem Moffi
