Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro, recently unveiled his 23-man squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification ties, Soccernet.ng reports.
Injury concerns have plagued the team, with key striker Victor Osimhen sidelined since his last international friendly against Saudi Arabia.
Additionally, AC Milan forward Samuel Chukwueze faced injury setbacks, leading Peseiro to call up Bayer Leverkusen forward Nathan Tella for his debut with the Super Eagles.
As a replacement for the injured Osimhen, Peseiro has turned to Sadiq, who has struggled to find the back of the net since returning from a lengthy injury spell with Real Sociedad.
The 26-year-old forward has yet to score since his comeback, leaving Real Sociedad eagerly awaiting a return on their €20 million investment.
While Peseiro has a history of providing opportunities to players facing challenges at the club level, the selection of Sadiq over the in-form Paul Onuachu raises questions among Nigerian football enthusiasts.
Onuachu had a disappointing stint with Southampton during the 2024 Winter transfer window, failing to score in all 18 appearances for the English side. Subsequently, he opted for a season-long loan move to Turkish Super Lig side Trabzonspor.
In Turkey, Onuachu has proven himself as a formidable striker, netting six goals in eight appearances, in stark contrast to Sadiq’s goal drought.
Considering Onuachu’s recent goal-scoring form in Turkey, he deserves a spot in the squad, especially as a replacement for the absent Osimhen.
The Nigerian forward’s impressive performances should not be overlooked, as the team seeks victories against Lesotho and Zimbabwe in their World Cup qualifiers.

Both Sadiq and Onuachu are not good enough .
Personally I'd suggest Dominic Solanke of Afc Bournemouth in the English premier league.
He is far better and more consistent.
on what basis u used to compare Spanish league and Turkish league, there's no comparison there,if Onuachu is good,he will still be playing at Southampton,so please stop pointing out what not suppose.
