Nigerian players abroad: Iwobi, Onuachu, Kayode, John hit goals in England, Turkey, Iraq

Soccernet.ng highlights some eye-catching displays from Nigerian footballers outside the country’s shores on Monday, November 27, 2023.

Alex Iwobi scored his first Premier League goal for Fulham in the Cottagers’ 3-2 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers at Craven Cottage.

Iwobi broke the deadlock for the home team in the 7th minute, his first goal in the league since netting for Everton against Leicester City in May.

Former Chelsea midfielder Willian scored two second-half penalties that handed Fulham all three points after Matheus Cunha and Hwang Hee-Chan had hit the target for Wolves.

Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey was also in action for Fulham from start to finish as they claimed their fourth win of the season.

Teenage forward Christopher John scored the only goal for Iraq’s Al Zawra’a as they secured a crucial 1-1 draw away to Kuwait’s Al Arabi in the AFC Cup.

Super Eagles attacker Anayo Iwuala appeared in the colours of Al Arabi, but his efforts could not help lift his side to a much-needed win.

The draw ensures Al Zawra’a stay second in Group C with eight points after five games and must only avoid losing at home to Bahrain’s Al Riffa in their last group game to qualify for the knockout round.

At the Superbet Arena-Giulești in București, Romania, Funsho Bamgboye impressed as Rapid Bucureşti fell to a tough 2-3 loss at home to Universitatea Cluj.

Bamgboye laid on the assist for Rapid Bucureşti’s second goal in the 24th minute that made it two-nil for the hosts.

However, that was as good as it got for the Lagos-born forward and his teammates as Universitatea Cluj scored three goals to power to a thrilling away win.

In Turkey, Paul Onuachu fired home his fourth goal in his last three games as Trabzonsopor battled to an exciting 3-3 draw at Sivasspor.

The on-loan Southampton striker now has seven goals in nine Super Lig games since arriving from England in the summer.

In the 1 Lig, Olanrewaju Kayode continued his impressive goalscoring form for Gençlerbirliği as he netted his fourth goal in as many games in their 1-1 draw with Ankara Keçiörengücü.
