“It may be the goal of the year”- Trabzonspor coach Abdullah Avci praises Onuachu after super showing against Konyaspor

Onuachu arrived at Trabzonspor after a disappointing stint at Southampton, but he has made Turkey his home already

Trabzonspor coach Abdullah Avci has praised Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu for his spectacular goal against Konyaspor that helped them secure a 2-1 win, Soccernet reports.

Onuachu stole the show when Trabzonspor welcomed Konyaspor to Papara Park on Friday evening. The Nigerian striker has been superb for the former Turkish champions since he arrived, and he continued with that performance.

Onuachu scored the opener for Trabzonspor in the 59th minute, but the visitors pulled one back through Louka Prip in the 77th minute.

It looked like the game would end in a draw, but Onuachu had other ideas. In the 85th minute, the former Genk man scored a spectacular strike. He showed great awareness to meet a cross from Enis Destan and struck the ball with the back of his feet to make it 2-1. His goal was enough to seal the win for the Black Sea Storm.

“I congratulate Onuachu; his second goal may be the goal of the year. It was a very rare goal,” Avci said after the game.

“I have no doubt about the good will of the team. We need to go further by increasing our energy and improving our game.”

With the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations fast approaching, Onuachu will look to keep banging in the goals and hope that Peseiro hands him a national team call-up.
