FIFA rankings: Super Eagles drop two spots after draws against Lesotho and Zimbabwe

The Super Eagles had a disappointing start to the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, and it has been reflected in the latest FIFA rankings

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have dropped down two places to 42nd in the latest FIFA rankings following draws against Lesotho and Zimbabwe in the last international break, Soccernet.ng reports.

Nigeria were 40th in the world and 6th in Africa in the last rankings released on October 26. However, their failure to beat Zimbabwe and Lesotho in their first two games of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers cost them.

The three-time African champions were favourites to defeat the two teams, but they fluffed their lines. They dropped points against 153-ranked Lesotho in Abuja before stealing a point from 125-ranked Zimbabwe three days later on neutral ground.

Sequel to these results, the Super Eagles are now 42nd in the world. Nonetheless, they remain sixth on the continent. Meanwhile, Lesotho and Zimbabwe profited from those draws as Lesotho climbed five places to 148, while Zimbabwe jumped one place to 124.

In Africa, the top five remain unchanged, with Morocco keeping their spot at the top. Senegal, Tunisia, Algeria, and Egypt complete the top five.

On the world stage, Argentina and France maintain their top two spots as before. England and Belgium climb are now 3rd and 4th, displacing Brazil, who are now 5th. Netherlands and Portugal have switched places in 6th and 7th, while Spain, Italy, and Croatia complete the top ten.
