Arsenal are currently battling with Gabriel Jesus who is finding it hard to get fit, and Eddie Nketiah who is struggling with consistency
Three Lions legend, Sol Campbell, has urged Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, to sign Ivan Toney, and Nigerian forward, Victor Osimhen to bolster his squad, Soccernet.ng reports.
The Super Eagles talisman has been on the radar of top European clubs following his impressive performance for Napoli and also scooping the Serie A top scorer award for the 2022-23 season.
The former Newcastle United player has, however, revealed that his former club are lacking the number nine figure in the attack despite the presence of Gabriel Jesus in the squad.
The Brazilian forward and Eddie Nketiah are among the prominent list of cowards forwards in the team. Jesus is often faced with injuries, while Nketiah struggles with consistency and professionalism.
“In the end, they will have to decide by January, do they need a centre forward,
“Twenty to 25 goals in the Premier League. You know, in those big, tight games. I think it will help them.
“Is it always easy to find the right centre forward? I think eventually if they get someone like that, the right centre forward to compliment the attack – you need them to be able to play to dislodge defences.
“Some defences understand your frequency but you bring in another player to change that frequency and other things happen. Bringing on someone really changes it up.” he said to Mirror Football.
Speaking on who could provide the attacking solution for the Gunners, the 73-capped ex-England international suggests the Napoli forward who said to cost around €150 million in the transfer market or Brentford star, Toney.
He added: “Osimhen, but is he going to cost too much money? There’s Ivan [Toney]. I think they’re good [in other areas of the pitch]. Center forward is one thing they might need to look at and see the possibilities, see what’s out there, or wait until next season.
“But if the right person comes along, an out-and-out striker, that can unlock those tight games, knows what to do in those positions, and also keeps defence occupied to then free up other people, they should maybe look at it Christmas time – if not, definitely next season. The right person will offload the pressure on the team, I think.”
The Super Eagles forward who was placed eighth in the 2023 Ballon d’Or award has been out of action since he picked up a knock during Nigeria’s clash with Saudi Arabia, and he his hoping ti return to action for his country and club.
