From getting rejected by Borussia Dortmund to leading a title charge with Bayer 04 Leverkusen, Victor Boniface is enjoying life in Germany.
Super Eagles striker, Victor Okoh Boniface, has led his team, Bayer 04 Leverkusen to become the first team in the top five European leagues to score fifty goals in all competitions, Soccernet.ng reports.
The 22-year-old joined Die Werkself in the summer of 2023 after scoring the most goals in the previous season’s UEFA Europa League campaign and has led his current side to a new record.
Xabi Alonso’s side sold their star winger to Moussa Diaby without a like-for-like replacement and while many might have judged them to struggle in front of goal, it has been a story of complete opposites.
With the Spaniard at the helm of things, Leverkusen are mounting a Bundesliga title charge, as they’re currently top of the league ahead of record champions, Bayern Munchen, who head into this weekend to play Borussia Dortmund in the entertaining Der Klassiker fixture.
Leverkusen are yet to lose a game this season, winning thirteen games and drawing just one of those. In the league alone, the Reds and blacks have scored twenty-seven goals and conceded just eight goals in nine games.
They’ve also scored eleven goals in three UEFA Europa League games, conceding just two, and the remaining twelve have been scored in the DFB Pokal, as they hit the fifty-goal mark yesterday in their 4-2 win over German third-tier side, Sandhausen.
Since joining in the summer, Boniface has scored seven goals and three assists for Alonso’s team in the league, creating chances and being on the end of them consistently.
