Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface has been named among the nominees for the Bundesliga’s September Goal of the Month award, Soccernet.ng reports.
Ten stunning goals have been picked among the dozens scored in the German top-flight division over the last month, with one of Boniface’s goals making the cut.
The Super Eagles striker netted four Bundesliga goals in September to help Bayer Leverkusen maintain their unbeaten start to the season.
Boniface grabbed a brace – and added an assist – in Leverkusen’s crushing 5-1 win at home to Darmstadt, and the 22-year-old pocketed another double in his side’s thrilling 4-1 victory over FC Heidenheim.
It is, however, Boniface’s lung-bursting run and delicate chip in Bayer Leverkusen’s rout of Darmstadt on September 2 that has been named among the best in the Bundesliga.
With 21 minutes on the clock, Boniface received a pass from Jeremie Frimpong on the halfway line and ran towards the opposition’s defence. The Nigerian forward dribbled past two defenders before clipping an exquisite finish over Darmstadt’s goalkeeper.
For the best goal award, Boniface faces stiff competition from nine other fantastic strikes, including brilliant efforts from the Leipzig duo of Xavi Simons and Benjamin Šeško, Borussia Dortmund’s Julian Brandt, VfB Stuttgart’s Serhou Guirassy, and Bayer Leverkusen’s talisman Alejandro Grimaldo.
The other nominated goals were scored by Maximilian Beier, Julian Ryerson, Florian Grillitsch, and Jan-Niklas Beste.
Boniface has had an unbelievable start to life in Germany, with the youngster scoring six goals in only six Bundesliga games. Only VfB Stuttgart’s Serhou Guirassy (10), Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane (8), and VfL Wolfsburg’s Jonas Wind (7) have scored more goals than the former Union Saint-Gilloise ace.
Boniface has already won two individual awards since arriving at Leverkusen from Belgium this summer, with the Nigeria international claiming the Player of the Month and Rookie of the Month accolades for August.
