The People’s Elephants would be looking to make a mark on the continent, and Peseiro is solidly behind them
Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro has shown support for Enyimba ahead of their African Football League clash against Wydad Casablanca on Sunday, Soccernet reports.
Enyimba are the only Nigerian club that was selected to compete in the inaugural edition of the AFL. The People’s Elephants have been pitched against Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca.
Both teams will square off in a two-legged fixture, with Enyimba welcoming Wydad to the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Sunday. Then, they will travel to Morocco for the second leg three days later.
Ahead of the first leg on Sunday, Nigeria coach Peseiro has sent his best wishes to the People’s Elephants.
“Wishing all the best to Enyimba as they make their debut in the African Football League tomorrow. Good luck to all the players and staff,” Peseiro wrote on X.
Enyimba’s ticket to the AFL resulted from their two Champions League wins in 2003 and 2004.
However, they have failed to make a mark on the continent since their semifinal finish in the CAF Champions League in 2011.
Nonetheless, under the tutelage of Finidi George, they would look to make a mark in the AFL. The winner of the tie will take on the winner of the tie between TP Mazembe and Esperance Tunis in the semifinal.
