Super Eagles backup goalkeeper joins Simon Moses and Peseiro to support struggling Uzoho

Following his subsequent mistakes during Nigeria’s matchups against Saudi Arabia and Mozambique, the Super Eagles’ starting goalkeeper has come under fire from Nigerian fans

Nigeria’s second-choice goalkeeper, Adeleye Adebayo, has taken to his social media platform to express solidarity with Omonoia FC’s goalkeeper, Francis Uzoho, who has faced criticism from Nigerian football fans, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Israeli Premier League-based goalkeeper shared a photo of himself and his senior colleague on his Instagram story, extending his support during a period of backlash against Uzoho.

Punch earlier reports that the 24-year-old goalkeeper has come under scrutiny for consecutive costly errors during Super Eagles international friendly matches against Saudi Arabia and Mozambique.

In the match against Saudi Arabia, Uzoho inadvertently flicked a ball into his own net from a set piece, allowing Roberto Mancini’s team to take the lead in a game that ultimately ended in a 2-2 draw.

The former APOEL goalkeeper also struggled to stop a low strike by Geny Catamo, conceding the first goal to Mozambique.

These performances have led to criticism from fans, questioning Uzoho’s capabilities and suitability to start for Nigeria in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

Despite this, Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro has publicly supported and defended his goalkeeper in the face of criticism.

Following this, Adeleye has joined FC Nantes forward Moses Simon and their Portuguese manager in expressing their support for Uzoho during this difficult time.

However, Uzoho’s repeated mistakes are now raising doubts about his prospects as a starter when Nigeria competes in the AFCON tournament.

  • Let the Coach drops that guy. If Nigeria made mistake of taking that guy to Nation Cup as number one goalie, we shall regret it. UZOHO caused our exit from the world cup and his performance in Super Eagkes shirt has nothing to celebrate about. Be warned!!!

  • Izoho has never impressed as a goalkeeper.
the coaching crew needs to beam searchlight on the local. we will surely find reliables

  • Uzoho and our coach are completely rubbish, we need a good goal keeper with good reflexes and a Tactical coach who can read a game and make the right substitutions when it's needed. I will not be surprised if Super Eagles did not qualify for the next coming fifa world cup, if we continue with Uzoho and Coach Paseiro.
