Victor Osimhen picked up an injury during Nigeria’s friendly game against Saudi Arabia and is set to spend up to 40 days on the sidelines.
Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen, is straying further away from Napoli, and his time at the club could come to an end soon, Soccernet.ng reports.
The striker scored twenty-six goals last term, and set up another four in the league, with his market value breaking records, but the club’s hierarchy insisted the 24-year-old wasn’t for sale.
Contract talks kicked off in the summer in a bid to tie the Ballon d’Or nominee to a lengthy contract at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium, things have gone sullen-cold since then.
According to Tuttomercato, there were positive signs and conversations at the start of the summer, hinting Osimhen wanted to stay at the club, but a poor run of form, and the viral TikTok video look to have marred any possible talks.
Osimhen’s agent, Roberto Calenda, met with the club’s transfer representatives, Maurizio Micheli and Mauro Meluso, but couldn’t come to an agreement concerning the renewal of the Super Eagles talisman.
Calenda himself had commented on the TikTok situation with disdain, and threatened to take legal action for what happened, but then avoided adding fuel to the fire, but refrained from doing so, possibly to keep things amicable with the club.
With the contract renewal seeming increasingly difficult, De Laurentiis might have no choice but to sell Osimhen this summer. His destination, however, is another headache.
Chelsea stands tall with an unwavering interest in the striker, and Saudi Arabia clubs are also in check with mouth-watering offers.
Real Madrid are also an option, should the Mbappé transfer refuse to materialize, Osimhen would jump at the opportunity to partner with Vinicius and Rodrygo up-front.
