Nigerians abroad: Ronaldo outshines Onyekuru; Onyeka savours Chelsea fall, Kayode, Olayinka on target

Soccernet.ng highlights some eye-catching displays from Nigerian footballers outside the country’s shores on Saturday, October 29, 2023.

A few Nigerian stars had a lot to celebrate in the EFL Championship.

Jamilu Collins laid on an assist to help propel Cardiff City to an impressive 2-0 win against Bristol City.

Joe Aribo was a second-half substitute as Southampton got the better of Birmingham City with a 3-1 win at St Mary’s Stadium.

Nigeria-eligible Sam Edozie claimed the assist to the Saints’ third goal as they rose to fourth on the Championship table.

Wilfred Ndidi was not in the matchday squad, while Kelechi Iheanacho saw action for the final ten minutes as Leicester City continued their excellent league run with a narrow 1-2 win away to Queens Park Rangers.

In the Premier League, Chelsea were stunned 0-2 at home by Brentford with Frank Onyeka contributing his bit to the Bees’ triumph as a substitute.

Kevin Akpoguma and Hoffenheim edged to a thrilling 2-3 victory at Stuttgart, with the Super Eagles defender impressive for the visitors in their German Bundesliga faceoff.

There was no such happy ending for Nantes and Moses Simon as they crumbled to a 4-0 loss away to Lens in Ligue 1.

In the Azerbaijani Premyer Liqa, John Otto John scored for the second consecutive game as Turan handed a 4-0 humbling to Kapaz.

Bismark Ubah netted the second goal for Jorge Wilstermann in their 2-0 victory over Royal Pari in a gameweek eight of the Bolivian Professional Division Cup fixture.

In the Portuguese Primeira Liga, Chaves were already losing four-nil to Vitoria Guimaraes when Kelechi Nwakali was introduced to the pitch. The Super Eagles midfielder could not help the visitors avoid losing 5-0 to the high-flying hosts.

In Saudi Arabia, Cristiano Ronaldo claimed an assist as Al Nassr outclassed Henry Onyekuru and Anthony Nwakaeme’s Al-Fahya 1-3 at the King Fahd International Stadium in Riyadh.

Peter Olayinka scored what proved to be the winning goal for Red Star Belgrade as they sealed a 1-2 win at IMT Novi Beograd in the Serbian top flight.

In the Turkish 1 Lig, Olanrewaju Kayode kicked off the comeback for Gençlerbirliği from a two-goal deficit with a fine strike as they eventually secured a 2-2 draw with Kocaelispor.
