Nigeria Vs Mozambique: Osimhen and Iheanacho ruled out of 2023 AFCON preparatory clash

Nigeria will take on Mozambique in one of their preparatory games for the AFCON, but Jose Peseiro will be without two of his biggest stars

Napoli and Leicester City forwards Victor Osimhen and Kelechi Iheanacho will miss Nigeria’s friendly game against Mozambique on Monday, Soccernet reports.

The Super Eagles played out a 2-2 draw against Saudi Arabia in a 2023 Africa Cup of Nations preparatory game on Friday.

Nigeria could have won the tie but for a last-minute free-kick goal from Mohamed Kanno.

The three-time African champions would be looking to do better when they play Mozambique in another friendly game against Mozambique on Monday, but Jose Peseiro would have to manage without some of his best legs.

According to Oma Akatugba, Osimhen underwent an MRI scan to assess how serious the injury he sustained against Saudi Arabia was, and he would have to sit out the game against Mozambique.

Meanwhile, Leicester City attacker Iheanacho, who scored a beautiful goal in the first game against Saudi Arabia, has returned to England because of a personal issue. As such, he will not play against Mozambique.

Nonetheless, the Super Eagles have adequate cover, as in-form Bayer Leverkusen star Victor Boniface and OGC Nice talisman Terem Moffi are capable of leading the attack.
