“It’s not easy” – Taiwo Awoniyi’s wife opens up on how she deals with life as a footballer’s wife

Taiwo Awoniyi had a major injury scare during his time in the Bundesliga with Mainz 05 after a head collision with Augsburg’s Felix Uduokhai.

The wife of Super Eagles striker, Taiwo Awoniyi, has opened up on life as the wife of a footballer, highlighting that it’s not an easy task, Soccernet.ng reports.

Taiwo Jesudun, Awoniyi’s wife, talked about one of the moments when she felt the most scared as her husband was left unconscious on the pitch after a collision with Felix Uduokhai.

In an interview with beIN Sports, the couple shared how they navigate life through the path they’re on. Taiwo’s wife, speaking about the Augsburg game, said;

“As I was watching the game, I saw him lying on the floor and the referee’s hand in his mouth, and I was perplexed.”

The pair have been on the journey together since Taiwo’s rise to stardom at the FIFA U-17 World Cup in 2013, and she mentioned it hasn’t always been an easy path.

“It’s not always been easy, with the injury, the ups and downs. Being a footballer’s wife is also difficult because when they’re down emotionally, physically, and spiritually, we’re also down. After a bad game, he’ll come home sometimes and avoid eye contact with me because he doesn’t want to talk, and wants to be on his own,” she added.

The Nottingham Forest striker explained why he likes to be on his own after a bad game or a bad time.

“For me, I always like to keep the pain on the pitch and the training ground, because if it goes home with me, there’s no way I wouldn’t be upset, so I’d rather just go and be on my own,” the 26-year-old revealed.

The former Union Berlin striker has had a great start to the new Premier League season, scoring three and setting two up in his first six games for the Reds.
