Ajax might get relegated– Sunday Oliseh

Ajax, who were back-to-back Eredivisie winners in 2020 and 2021, are yet to find their feet in the league this season

Super Eagles legend, Sunday Oliseh, expressed his dismay regarding his former club, Ajax Amsterdam, following their recent loss to Utrecht,Soccernet.ng reports.

Despite being the consecutive champions of the Dutch league in the 2020-21 and 2021-22 seasons, Ajax finds themselves struggling in the current campaign, languishing in the league’s lower ranks with only five points to their name.

Their defeat to Utrecht marked their fourth loss this season, a concerning trend for Oliseh, who wore the Amsterdam-based club’s jersey during his playing career.

In response to their poor performance, Oliseh suggested that Ajax might even face the possibility of relegation to the second tier of the Dutch league.

“It’s been quite sad watching an extremely disappointing Ajax’s first half today. I have never seen my ex-club this poor! At this rate, Ajax just might get relegated as strange as it sounds. Lots of work needs to be done on all sections!!” he wrote on his X (formerly Twitter) feed.

Ajax, alongside PSV and Feyenoord, are historically recognized as the “Big Three” in the Eredivisie, as they are the only clubs to have retained their top-tier status since the league’s inception without facing relegation.

The recent downturn in Ajax’s fortunes raises concerns about the potential for a surprising turn of events, which could see these giants competing in the Erste Divisie.
