2024 Paris Olympics: Nigeria’s Super Falcons to face Cameroon after Lionesses crush Uganda’s hopes

Nigeria women’s national team will face Cameroon in the third round of the CAF Olympic Games qualifying campaign, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Super Falcons, earlier on Tuesday, defeated Ethiopia 4-0 on the night (and 5-1 on aggregate) at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja to advance past the second round of the qualifiers.

After picking up a 1-1 draw in Addis Ababa last week, the nine-time African champions knew they needed a win of any manner on home soil to see off the challenge of the Ethiopians.

And in Abuja on Tuesday, the Falcons had little trouble getting the win as goals from Uchenna Kanu, Rasheedat Ajibade (two), and Asisat Oshoala handed the West Africans a comfortable victory.

Nigeria will now battle Cameroon for a place in the final playoff round.

The Cameroonians struggled in the second round before beating Uganda 3-2 on aggregate.

Uganda held a 2-0 advantage in the first leg and needed to avoid a defeat in Yaounde to cause an upset.

However, Njoya Ajara gave the Lionesses the lead in the first half while Monique Ngock added a second at the start of the second half to drag the tie back on levelled terms on aggregate.

Nothing could separate the two sides in regulation time, but Falone Meffometou struck the clincher in extra-time to complete the turnaround for Cameroon.

The game between Nigeria and Cameroon will be played between the 19th and 28th of February next year.

Only two teams will represent Africa at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
