Why Osimhen can do better than last season – Ex-AC Milan star

Osimhen was phenomenal for the Partenopeans last season, and they would be banking on him to deliver this season

Former AC Milan star Alberto Bigon has stated that he sees Victor Osimhen keeping up with his remarkable performances from last season, Soccernet reports.

Osimhen had a remarkable campaign with Napoli last season, scoring 31 goals in 39 appearances. The 24-year-old Nigeria hitman scored 26 Serie A goals in the run-up to Napoli’s Scudetto triumph, winning the Capocannoniere in the process.

He also scored five goals to help the Partenopeans to their first-ever quarterfinal finish in the UEFA Champions League.

Last season was his best campaign by far, as he had never scored more than 18 goals in previous seasons.

There have been subtle talks that Osimhen may not reached his heights of last season, taking into consideration the fact that former coach Luciano Spalletti has left to take the Italy job, and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has not exactly played at last season’s level.

However, former AC Milan player, who also had a stint with Napoli, Bigon, feels Osimhen will still deliver the good this season.

“I have no doubts that Osimhen will be as good as he was last season,” Bigon said per Napoli Magazine.

“He is a very particular footballer with enormous skills. He combines physical and technical characteristics in a unique way.”

Osimhen’s brilliance has earned a place on the thirty-man Balon d’Or list for 2023, and he has a good shot at finishing in the top ten. The Nigerian striker started well this season, with three goals in three games. He would look to continue with that form as Napoli look to retain their Serie A title.
