Why Iheanacho did not join Aina and Awoniyi at Nottingham Forest this summer

Iheanacho was heavily linked with a transfer away from Leicester City this summer, but nothing happened in the end

English Premier League club Nottingham Forest were seriously interested in signing Kelechi Iheanacho this summer, but they failed to sign him because of Leicester City’s asking price, Soccernet reports.

Iheanacho joined Leicester City in 2017, and it has been a rollercoaster time for the 26-year-old forward. The Nigeria attacker has been player of the season twice, but there have been times when he has been a peripheral figure at the club.

Leicester City got relegated from the Premier League last season after a poor campaign that saw them finish 18th. Iheanacho was their best player in that campaign, and with just one year left on his contract, there were talks that he could leave the club.

The Super Eagles striker was linked with Nottingham Forest, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Everton, and Crystal Palace, but nothing concrete eventually happened.

According to the Athletic, Forest were seriously interested in Iheanacho, but they were unwilling to meet Leicester City’s £20million price tag. Because of this, talks fell through.

Also, Crystal Palace almost succeeded in signing Iheanacho, but the deal broke down midway.

As the transfer window has closed, it seems Iheanacho will have to wait till next summer so he can leave for free. But he could still leave in January, and that is very unlikely.

Nonetheless, he would perform well this season so that he can get a very good deal next time.
