Super Falcons’ Alozie reacts after seeing Red in Houston’s NWSL loss to San Diego

Michelle Alozie was making her third appearance for Houston Dash in the club’s lone defeat to San Diego Wave after her appearance for the Super Falcons at the 2023 Women’s World Cup

Super Falcons defender Michelle Alozie has reacted after being dismissed during her club Houston Dash’s 1-0 away defeat to San Diego Wave in a National Women’s Soccer League(NWSL) fixture played on Sunday night, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 26-year-old was shown a straight red for denying an opponent a goalscoring opportunity just after the half-hour mark of the game.

Alozie miscalculated her ball control from a Dash’s throwing before bringing down a San Diego player Rachel Hill who was racing toward the goal after beating her to the ball.

Her dismissal proved costly for Houston, who had to play nearly two-thirds of the game with 10 players. Dash still showed effort and fought to ensure San Diego worked hard to claim their lone victory.

After the end of the game, Alozie, who knows the position she put her teammates in after her dismissal, revealed her disappointment and also commended them for their commitment despite the early setback.

disappointed that I put my team in a tough position tonight. however, extremely proud of the effort and fight that they had with only 10 players. I will always give it all for them and the H, She wrote on her X (formerly Twitter) account

The defeat has left Houston Dash in 10th place on 20 points from 18 games in the NWSL league table with four matches remaining in the regular season. They will face Racing Louisville in their next game on September 16.

Alozie has made 14 appearances and has two goals in the NWSL this season.

She was one of the Super Falcons standout players at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup and will aim to play another part in their Women’s Africa Cup of Nations(WAFCON) qualifier against Sao Tome and Principe in a fortnight.
