Super Eagles star Alex Iwobi reveals why he joined Fulham

Iwobi joined Fulham on transfer deadline day, and he has high hopes at the club

Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi has stated that he left Everton for Fulham because he likes the project at the club, Soccernet reports.

Iwobi dumped Everton for fellow English Premier League club Fulham in a deal with £22million on deadline day of the transfer window. The versatile 27-year-old midfielder was one of the best players at Everton.

He played a major role in the club’s survival push two seasons ago. He was also key last season, playing all 38 of their Premier League games.

However, Everton’s future does not look at the moment, as they have lost their opening three games of the Premier League season. Also, their transfer policy has not been encouraging, as they have failed to make a marquee signing this summer.

Iwobi was the shining light in Everton’s darkness, but he has now joined the Cottagers. The Nigerian has now revealed that the project at Fulham was what attracted him. He also stated that he is looking forward to walking with coach Marco Silva as they worked together at Everton two years ago.

“Marco Silva spoke to me and told me about the ambitions of the club[Fulham], and where he wants to go,” Iwobi told Fulham FC TV.

“I’m on board, and I’m hoping I can bring something to Fulham. He wants to challenge for things and I feel like he gave me the confidence boost. I hope I’m able to repay the faith.”

Iwobi is currently nursing a hamstring injury, but he should be back in action for Fulham after the international break.
