Osimhen’s presence makes Napoli Serie A contenders- Former Argentina international

Osimhen was Napoli’s best player last season, and they have managed to keep hold of him despite links with Manchester United, Bayern Munich, and other top European sides

Former Argentina striker Denis German has praised Serie A champions Napoli for holding on to Victor Osimhen despite interest from other top European clubs, Soccernet reports.

The 24-year-old Nigerian hitman had a remarkable campaign with Napoli last season. The Super Eagles striker registered 31 goals in 39 appearances across all competitions, helping the Partenopeans to their first Scudetto in 33 years and a first-ever quarterfinal finish in the UEFA Champions League.

Following his performances, top clubs in Europe were linked with the former Lille man. Manchester United, PSG, Bayern Munich, and Arsenal were all linked with the Super Eagles star. Even Al Hilal tried to lure him with big money, but nothing concrete came from the talks.

In fact, Napoli are looking to extend his contract by a year, and talks have already started, and both parties could reach an agreement soon. Nonetheless, Osimhen looks set to remain in Naples for this season at least.

Former Argentina forward Denis, who played for Napoli between 2008 and 2010, has praised Napoli for holding on to their star man. And he believes Osimhen would be key to whatever they want to achieve this season.

“Napoli have done well by keeping Osimhen,” German said per Napoli Magazine.

“The Azzurri will certainly fight for the top three positions in the Serie A because they are still ahead of the other clubs.”

Osimhen has already started the season in blistering form, scoring three goals in his first two Serie A games for Napoli. However, other clubs in the league are catching up, with Inter Milan and AC Milan both impressing in their first two games.
