Manchester United’s Antony dropped from Brazil squad amid abuse allegations

Manchester United’s Brazilian winger, Antony, has found himself at the center of controversy as he faces abuse allegations, Soccernet.ng reports.

The repercussions of these allegations have been swift, with Antony being dropped from the Brazil national team squad.

The Brazil Football Confederation (CBF) issued a statement on Monday, addressing the situation and confirming Antony’s absence from the upcoming matches against Bolivia and Peru.

The statement cited the need to investigate the allegations and prioritize the well-being of the alleged victim, the player, the Brazilian team, and the CBF.

The CBF’s statement reads as quoted by ESPN, “Due to the facts that became public this Monday involving Manchester United player Antony, and which need to be investigated, and in order to safeguard the alleged victim, the player, the Brazilian team and the CBF, the organization informs that the athlete has been withdrawn from the Brazilian team.”

Manchester United has, so far, chosen not to comment on the allegations, leaving room for the legal process to unfold.

This incident comes just a month after Manchester United made headlines by deciding not to continue with star striker Mason Greenwood, who faced similar abuse allegations. However, those charges against Greenwood were subsequently dropped in February.

Manchester United and the football community at large will be closely monitoring the developments surrounding Antony’s case as the investigations proceed.
