Lookman’s effort insufficient as stubborn Fiorentina claim big win against Atalanta

Lookman broke his duck for the season, but his effort was not enough

Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman scored his first goal of the season for Atalanta, but it was not enough as they fell to a painful 3-2 loss to Fiorentina, Soccernet reports.

After an impressive showing for Nigeria in their Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sao Tome and Principe, Lookman got a starting shirt in Atalanta’s lineup for the fixture against Fiorentina at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.

La Dea got off on the right foot, with Teun Koopmeiners scoring in the 21st minute. However, Fiorentina replied promptly with two goals from Giacomo Bonaventura and Lucas Martinez Quarta.

Fiorentina took the lead into the break, but Atalanta came back roaring in the second half. Super Eagles star Lookman turned up big for his team in the 53rd minute. He had a nice interchange of passes with Marten De Roon, who set him up with a nice pass to inside the box. Lookman then drifted into the centre of the box and sent a powerful strike into the Fiorentina net to make it 2-2. Six minutes after his goal, Lookman was taken off for Mario Pasalic.

Unfortunately for Atalanta, the hosts scored their third in the 76th minute via Christian Kouame. Atalanta failed to get an equaliser, and it ended that way.

Lookman’s goal was his first of the season for La Dea.
