Lookman hails ‘very important’ victory as Atalanta climbs over Napoli in Serie A standings

Ademola Lookman is starting to pick if form having scored against São Tomé, Fiorentina, and now Cagliari in his last four games

Super Eagles forward, Ademola Lookman, has emphasized the significance of Atalanta’s victory against Cagliari, which elevated them to 6th place in Serie A, just one point ahead of Napoli, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 26-year-old Lookman, who had a less impressive end to the 2022-23 season, has shown promise with two goals in his last three appearances for Atalanta.

Speaking to DAZN after the Cagliari match, Lookman acknowledged the importance of their win, especially as it placed them just one point away from the top four, with Napoli trailing behind.

Lookman was responsible for opening the scoring when he capitalized on a precise pass from Charles De Ketelaere and tapped the ball into an empty net.

The former Leicester City player expressed his delight at scoring a goal during his 67 minutes of play at the Genesis Stadium.

“I am happy for the victory; it was very important, as well as for the goal I scored,” Lookman stated, as quoted by Sports Face.

Lookman was substituted by Croatian midfielder Mario Pašalić, who sealed the victory for Atalanta in the 76th minute when he capitalized on a loose ball, beating goalkeeper Boris Radunović and slotting the ball into the bottom right corner.

Atalanta is set to face Verona in their next Serie A fixture on Wednesday, with Lookman eager to continue his impressive form.
