The Nigeria international made a decisive impact for the Canaries to power them to a crucial victory
Super Eagles winger Moses Simon has described his thought process before he unleashed the audacious goal that gave Nantes the win at Clermont Foot, Soccernet.ng reports.
Simon scored a stunner – probably the goal of the weekend – to propel Nantes to a narrow 1-0 win over Clermont, Nantes’ first victory of the season.
The match, played on the unpleasant surface of the Stade Gabriel Montpied, had been deadlocked at halftime with few chances created.
But three minutes into the second half, Simon gave Nantes the lead.
Clermont’s goalkeeper, Mory Diaw, found himself in no-man’s land after his back pass went awry, and Simon directed a first-time finish over the stranded goalie and into the net. It turned out to be the winner in the closely fought encounter.
Describing the goal on Prime Video (via Tribune Nantais) after the match, Simon said,
“I saw that the goalkeeper was moving forward. Already in the first half, I had noticed. We had this chance and we had to make this move.
“This first victory was a long time coming. It’s a very important victory for everyone, for the supporters. We must continue to work to continue to progress.”
The win takes Nantes to five points after their first five games, lifting them to 15th on the table. Ligue 1 leaders Monaco have 11 points.
