“It’s the last match”– Super Eagles Coach Peseiro warns Sao Tome ahead of AFCON qualifier

The Super Eagles of Nigeria are slated to face Sao Tome and Principe on Sunday for their last tie of the AFCON qualifiers

Super Eagles’ head coach, Jose Peseiro, has emphasized his team’s determination to secure a victory against Sao Tome and Principe, Soccernet.ng reports.

Despite already securing a spot in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Cote d’Ivoire, the Portuguese boss has made it clear that his team won’t take it easy on the Central African side.

The Super Eagles have only lost one game out of their five AFCON qualification matches, with Guinea-Bissau causing an upset in front of home fans at the Abuja National Stadium. However, Nigeria secured a win in the reverse fixture in Bissau.

Recently, Sierra Leone managed to hold Nigeria to a 2-2 draw for 90 minutes, till Kelechi Iheanacho scored the winning goal in the 95th minute.

Peseiro, who recently extended his contract with the Nigeria Football Federation, stated during a pre-match conference that his team is fully focused on winning the upcoming match against Sao Tome, despite having already secured their place in the AFCON.

“Of course, it’s a match we want to win, it’s the last match in our group. Our team is the best team in the group so we must finish in the top position. So to finish in the first position, you need to beat São Tomé [e Principe]. In the mind of our national team, the goal is to win

“With a better team, with good conditions and facilities, good pitch and good hotel, our aim is to beat Sao Tome and play well,” he said.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria are slated to tackle Sao Tome at the Godswill Akpabio stadium, on Sunday, September 10, 2023.
