“I didn’t get to move and I’m here now playing for Leicester City“–Kelechi Iheanacho

Leicester City went down on the final Premier League matchday of last season, but, Kelechi Iheanacho has set sights on a return to the top.

Super Eagles forward, Kelechi Iheanacho, has set sights on a return to the English top-flight, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 27-year-old was in search of a move from King Power Stadium, but an exit never materialized, and the Nigerian has recalibrated his focus to promotion to the Premier League.

Leicester reportedly wanted £18m for the ex-Manchester City forward, but negotiations with Nottingham and Crystal Palace stalled.

Speaking with BBC Radio Leicester, the Super Eagle said:

“I didn’t get to move and I’m here now playing for Leicester City.”

Going down from top-flight football isn’t always a pleasant experience for a lot of competitive footballers, and Kelechi explained how the relegation experience is driving him forward to do better.

“We went down, it’s not ideal but we are here now and fighting our way up. I’m here concentrating on my football with Leicester City and hopefully, we will get back up and everyone will be happy.”

The FA Cup winner discussed the heavy transfer speculation and his contract situation, as he has just ten months left on his contract with The Foxes.

“When you have less time left at the football club, a year or two, there is speculation and rumours that you want to stay and you want to leave and all that. Personally, I love Leicester City, it’s a good place, a good football club and I’ve been here a few years now.”

Since moving to King Power Stadium in 2017, Seniorman has scored 57 goals in 215 appearances for the club, including a penalty against Norwich to open his account in the Championship.

With Leicester rejuvenated under Enzo Maresca, Iheanacho remains confident in Leicester’s chances of promotion. He added:

“We are top of the table now, we have to hang in there now and keep going. Let’s keep the smiling going. Hopefully, we will end it with praise and we will get up there in the Premier League.”

Leicester will square up against Liverpool tomorrow in the EFL Cup at the King Power Stadium.
