With three goals in four games and a good start to life in France, Akor Adams explains how football has helped him shape his career as a person.
Nigerian striker Akor Jerome Adams, who recently made the move to the French Ligue 1 with Montpellier Hérault Sport Club, is expressing his gratitude for the opportunities football has provided him, Soccernet.ng reports.
Since joining Montpellier, the striker has made an impressive start, netting three goals in just four appearances, including a standout 4-1 victory over Ligue 1 giants Olympique Lyonnais.
Akor, an eighteen-year-old talent, made the leap from the Jamba football academy in Africa to Sogndal in Norway.
After spending three years at Sogndal, he moved to Lillestrøm Sportsklubb, where he showcased his scoring prowess with twenty-five goals in forty-six games.
In an interview with OmaSports TV, Akor shared how football has transformed his life, both on and off the field.
“I come from a modest family, neither wealthy nor extremely poor. However, I firmly believe that football, by the grace of God, has not only improved my life but also the lives of my family, friends, and even people not closely related to me.” he said.
Beyond the material aspects, the twenty-three-year-old emphasized that football has instilled discipline in him and kept him away from trouble.
He added: “It goes beyond the physical rewards; football also provides hope for those in your circle. Football has guided me away from certain temptations that are common among young people.”
Reflecting on his dedication to the sport, Akor noted, “I have had to make sacrifices, such as adhering to strict schedules and avoiding distractions, to achieve success in football. It has helped me stay focused right from the start.”
For Akor, success has a non-traditional definition. He believes that success is a privilege that allows individuals to make a positive impact.
“Success can be misleading because at times, you might think you are far ahead of others, but in reality, you are simply privileged. What truly matters is how you use that privilege to make a difference,” he stated.
Akor’s aspirations with Montpellier remain unchanged as he hopes to see his team qualify for European competition in the upcoming season.
