Victor Boniface has started his career in Germany in good form, registering 4 goals and 2 assists from 4 games for Bayer 04 Leverkusen
Super Eagles forward Victor Boniface has set another record as the player with the most shots in his first four Bundesliga games since the detailed stats collection started in the 2004/05 season, Soccernet.ng reports.
The 22-year-old has had an impressive start to his career in Germany, with four goals and two assists in his first three games for Bayer 04 Leverkusen.
His good start has previously earned him the accolade of being the third player after Paco Alcacer and Erling Haaland to make 6 goal contributions in his first three Bundesliga games.
As a result of his form, he was handed his maiden cap for Nigeria in the last International break, coming on to replace Taiwo Awoniyi in the 64th minute before assisting Samuel Chukwueze to net his country’s last goal in a 6-0 victory over Sao and Principe in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
Boniface returned to Germany to help Leverkusen claim a 2-2 draw against Bayern Munich in a top-of-the-table clash on Friday night, failing to score or assist in a game for the first time this season.
Bayern took the lead twice through goals from Harry Kane and Leon Goretzka but were pegged back on the two occasions by Alejandro Grimaldo and Exequiel Palacios goals.
Despite not getting on the scoresheet, Boniface troubled Bayern’s defense on many occasions with shots both on and off-targets, bringing the total number of shots he has attempted this new Bundesliga season to 29.
He’s now the first player to have attempted 29 shots in his first four Bundesliga games since stats collection began 19 years ago.
Boniface will be aiming to return to his scoring form when Leverkusen host Swedish side Hacken in the Europa League on Thursday.
